Callaghan Wise’s accomplishment timeline:
-Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Michigan State University in 2015
-CAMT Designation earned in 2016
-Joined NAA Technology & Global Outreach committees in 2016
-Joined WAAA’s Programs committee 2018
-Took class for his HCCP designation 2018
-Won Rising Star Award at the Detroit Metropolitan Apartment Association's Prism Awards in August 2019
-Won Rising Star Award at the Property Management Association of Michigan's GLAStar Awards in October 2019

In 2018 Cal became Smart’s Chief Financial Officer, and sought out a mentor to help him grow in his new role. Smart enlisted the assistance of a senior colleague that had recently retired from a CFO position with a large local University. Cal worked daily with his mentor learning how to identify trends, common challenges and all things necessary to become a great CFO. Cal has taken to his new position very well and has really rolled up his sleeves and gotten to work implementing new standards and working with the team to help raise the bar at Smart Apartment Solutions.

Callaghan embodies the definition of a Rising Star. In a few short years in the industry, Cal has kept an open mind and can do attitude which has allowed him many unique opportunities to align himself with today’s leaders.

Cal applies what he learns from his mentors in real time, he asks thoughtful questions and has been able to excel in every task he has been given.

Cal represents all that a professional organization aspires to be, relevant, reliable, relatable, reputable, hard-working and dedicated. Cal is a firm believer in NAA, what the organization stands for and highly values those professional relationships he has built with other members over the years.

Cal has a smile for all he meets, he is open, possesses natural leadership skills, is a mentor to many and a savvy business person. In Cal's various travels for business, Cal takes every opportunity to promote the National Apartment Association, his CAMT designation and his affiliation with the PMAM and the other Michigan local affiliates. His star shines very bright and Cal is the first to want to give back to the profession of which he possesses great passion; because of all that it gives to others, I believe Cal exemplifies all that a rising star embodies.

Cal is a future leader and advocate for our industry, and we are excited to see what he impacts next!

Volunteer Accomplishments

Cal is involved with Detroit Metropolitan Apartment Association (DMAA), Washtenaw Area Apartment Association (WAAA), Property Management Association of Mid Michigan (PMAMM), Property Management Association of West Michigan (PMAWM) trade shows as well as the golf outings usually working double duty working as a hole sponsor and also golfing in a foursome. If it's not a trade show or golf outing, you will find Cal supporting our local associations at Tiger outings (DMAA) or at a beach parties (WAAA), talking to Legislation in Lansing (Property Management Association of Michigan PMAM) or chatting with members at holiday parties across the State.

Cal currently serves on the DMAA Communications Committee and the WAAA Programs Committee, however he is a frequent contributor to the PMAM Communications Committee.

On a National level, Cal serves on the Technology Committee, the Global Outreach Committee and a frequent contributor for the Apartment Careers Committee, and Next Gen Committee. Cal has been actively participating in the Advocate, Apartmentalize, and AOD conferences for NAA since 2016.

Advocacy Activities

Since 2016 Cal has participated at the NAA’s Advocate conference in Washington DC, where Cal worked alongside members across our State and Nation who came together to talk property management with our Members of Congress, sharing our industry voice and values.

In addition, Cal has participated in the last two annual Property Management Association of Michigan Capitol Day events, talking to Members of Congress on a local level in Lansing. He also regularly attends the legislative updates at the local associations across the state.
